The Power of Reading

The moment people hear the word "Read" , they are like:" Ugh.....or This is not my cup of tea." And if we advice someone to read to be wise, hundreds of his excuses pop up:"I am too busy to do it or Books are literally boring." and many more. But is this really the truth? We ll talk about the myths and truths about Books today.

People go on to justify their belief about not reading books very easily without thinking deep about it.
Somebody once asked Warren Buffett about his secret to success. Buffett pointed to a stack of books and said:

“Read 500 pages like this every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will...”

-Warren Buffet

If you have to ask me, "Books give me role models and heroes and meaning in a world where I had none."
Some will snap quickly on hearing about reading 500 pages a day:"Have you lost it? It is impossible to do this. Besides we have a lot more to do barring reading. No...this isn't possible." But all I want to say is that you dont need to read 500 pages a day in the beginning. The number 500 may be scary for most of the folks, but is actually not. If we are calculative about how our life functions, it ll be easy to calculate the time to read 500 pages a day.

We Indians read approx 100-300 words per minute. Hashtag #IfWeRead 😁. And a typical biography or a non -fictional or a practical sort of book has not more than 50000-51000 words according to a survey. The condition set up for non-fictional books is 50000. But some reach upto 75000, which is quite permissible.
Now if we hear 200 books per year, we ll be like" Damn...we dnt even study this amount of books for our personal benifit. Forget about reading these books for extra learning." This will be the condition of all folks in the beginning. But as I said, Be Calculative. We have set up an aim to read 200 books per year. Ignore the number 200 for a moment. Otherwise it ll scare u out.😉. Now, these 200 books will contain approx 50000 words each. "Begin reading non-fictional books which give you some good stuff to ponder over. This will exercise your thinking power which has been rusted until now."

Now, 200 books* 50000 words=10 million words. Gosh!!!! Some say" R u out of your mind?". But chill. You can ignore this number too for a moment. 10million words/200 words per minute will give you 25,000 minutes. And 25000 minutes= 417 hours. Now you still will be dumbstruck listening to contributing in 417 hours per year into reading just fu****g books. Some will calculate that there are 365 days in a year. It means reading at least 2 hours a day. It is a damn difficult job men. We dont possess so mich of time. We are sorry, is what people respond. But I have a theory to prove people wrong.
According to a survey conducted by the Times Of India.....It says: People spend 70% of their total time browsing social media. And most of the times, people browse social media for no valid reason. They just browse it to be updated about the shitty celebrity gossips, poking into others buisnesses or watching the Game Of Thrones series😉.

We have 525600 minutes in a year. And an average Indian spends at least 3 hours a day into social media or TV. So in an year, he spends 65,700 minutes into the nonsense social media. Ohh!! Isn’t this a big number. If you would have invested this time into reading, you would easily read 525 books acording to the maths that I illustrated. Wow! Isn’t that amazing? And the books you read will anyway give u only pure knowledge with nothing nonsense at all. Purely opposite to what social media gives us mostly. I wont say that social media is totally useless. But there is a limit and some logic into using it. If you watch something useful, you have a profit of course. But invest more time into reading, I would suggest.
How will the whole of this work then? You may say that no matter what we do to stay away from social media, we land up screwing more into it. But there is always a way out of every problem. When you begin to read, the social media distractions should strictly kept away from you. You can isolate yourself in a room to read away from all distractions. The more you are at peace, the more you will concentrate.
And you can even read Multi-Medium. That is it is not important that you read only from books. I read from books, listen to audio books, read E-books, download pdf’s of books and read. But at the same time, as I mentioned, stay away from distractions till you read.
People say, Willpower has the strength to change ones life. I disagree. Sometimes willpower betrays yo when you need it the most. Rather, develop a series of permenent schedule and habits. They remain constantly with us no matter what. And once they are set into us, we win. So make reading your habit. According to a study,

it takes 21 days to develop a habit and 90 days to change a lifestyle. So why not try books for at least 21 days? And once you are over with the days, you realise that you have already developed a habit of reading.😊

And once you get into this addiction just as I am in, you will surely be at ease and feel good.
Give it a try.😊
